Small Screen Prints With Big Impact
Our day to day print design at Thirty Eight Ride Co. is always that big, bold, in your face stuff because let’s be honest, that’s what’s been trending in our scene for quite some time now. In short, it sells shirts. But I pay attention to a lot of other scenes within the clothing industry and I’ve been seeing more and more minimalistic stuff out there. Small, basic, single colour prints seem to be all over the place outside of the typical motorcycle related brands. I wasn’t totally sold on it at first but an important thing to remember your customers might have broader tastes than your own, so I figured why not make something in this minimalistic style and see how it goes.
I wanted to keep it extremely simple here, a small tonal print a few shades off from the shirt colour, a neck label and a hem tag…nothing else. One thing I know from this business is most people are paying for a premium level tee because of the print design on it, but in this case clearly we were going to fall short in that department. To make up for it, I used one of the most high end triblend shirts on the market so that my customers would feel like they got their moneys worth and feel like their entire torso is being caressed by angel wings (seriously, these tees are that good).
This may not have been the most spectacular display of design or print ability, but the point is that you don’t always have to go that route. Sometimes it’s all about just making a product that works and have all of the elements flow together, I think we did that here. Actually since I’m writing this a few weeks later, I know we did that. These tees flew off the shelf and everyone that got one sent me massages about how much they love them, along with multiple others messaging me asking when I’m going to restock the sold out sizes. Hell, these things even converted me and now I wear them all the time. So if you’re looking to try something new for your brand or your customers, give minimalism a shot. You might be just as surprised as I was.
